The weather was getting better in February, so we were able to take some trips out, like to Niarbyl:
However, it was too cold for the boys by the time we got there: Orry refused to move on the walk down to the shore, crying that it was "Too windy! Too Windy! Too windy!" And then Finn remembers the place as "That place which was really cold." Humph.
We took our first ever trip to Glen Maye (even for the 35-year-old Manx person amongst us). It took some convincing to get Finn there, as one of the Manx folktales has a Buggane throw a lazy person off the waterfall there, which made Finn frightened to visit, but it was well worth the struggle to get there - it was lovely!
Also old St. Runius church, with it's distinctive stairway over the door:
And also the Archallagan Plantation and the great play area hidden there in the woods:
It is unusual for us to take the real camera out these days (we mostly just take our phones), but it did come with us to Archallagan, which meant that some nice pictures of the boys emerged:
(I don't know where Finn's posing came from - not pictured are the pouts which also came out - very strange!)
Orry is silly. Here is a video of him eating without looking at his food (apparently). We've no idea what this is all about - it's just the sort of thing that he does sometimes:
Also brilliant Orry silliness is this exchange he had with Cori as she was taking down the hems of Finn's school trousers and he came over to try to climb onto her lap:
Cori: Oh! Be careful - this needle is very sharp!
Orry: Can I smell it?
Cori: umm... yeah...
[Orry takes a big dramatic sniff of the needle and thread]
Orry: Oh! Yes! Be very careful!!
Oddball.
There were also good trips out to Museums and the like. The House of Manannan, of course:
But we were able to see a story-telling there, covering Norse mythology, which was quite exciting; Finn was talking about Ice Giants the rest of the day, which was rather fun.
The second story was not ideal for Orry, but we happily bumped into our friends, Alfie and Sal there, so I was able to go off with the younger two to do other things as the story of the evil blacksmith of Trondheim went on:
There was also a Treasure Hunt with the cousins in Milntown on the edge of Ramsey, which is always a fun place to be:
And, as ever in Peel, there was the beach to be enjoyed, even if in coats:
One of the very noticeable developments in Orry of late was his taking on a stammer. This isn't the best video of it, but it does give a good idea of what it is (and also what a toddler Orry is!)
It is something we've been told not to worry about at this stage, but that doesn't stop it being annoying!
Having tried it once before, and without too great a success, Cori decided to try again to cut the boys' hair. After much YouTube-watching, she got going...
You will note the high-technicality of the held-up hair, and the ultimate child distraction/subduing; the tablet. Both children sat through the haircut quite happily, amazingly:
However, it should be noted the tablet isn't quite perfect, especially when it inspires the child to suddenly lean in for a closer look, taking off the fringe (bangs for Americans)... The fringeless child was not Orry...
...Rather, it was Finn:
We couldn't get a perfect picture of Finn's fringe, because he was immediately on the defensive, as it was clear from our horror that his hair was all wrong. It was "fixed" by all being cut much shorter only 30 minutes or so later, but this video gives you an idea of what it was at its worst... as they did "the Pulp Dance":
The blending is Cori chopping up paper, in order to make pulp, in order to make paper... i.e. to show the inquisitive Finn how paper is made. However, it didn't really go to plan, as the dirty-disinclined Finn immediately called the affair all "too messy" and so wandered off, leaving just Orry, who was not at all interested in any activity other than splashing and making a mess of it all. As the splashing increased, and the kitchen and Orry was covered with soon-to-be drying paper-pulp, the horror dawned on us all!
But at last we got some lovely novelty paper out of it!
Not much else to report: just a few sillinesses...
Like Orry's momentary desire to dress-up...
.... Or Finn's hoarding books in his bed, just in case...
... Or their desire to look like skeletons by wearing Finn's X-ray set...
... Which inspired Orry to eat his breakfast off a skull, as you do...
... Orry's ridiculous packing for our weekly Manx lesson as Finn is in school...
... Orry's deciding occasionally that he needs to go to the toilet, like Finn...
Which, we suppose, isn't too silly, especially as he sometimes goes to the toilet successfully. But we're trying to put off potty-training him at the moment - perhaps in Summer, when the time and weather are more suited!
And, to finish with, here are two (rather blue) pictures of those two handsome boys one February morning:
