Monday began slowly, with the boys enjoying their library books in bed:
Today was all about bridges. It started last week, with a watch of Lego Masters, and then trying to recreate a good bridge to take a heavy load. Here is the workings:
And, you'll be glad to know that the final design was successful, as Finn here explains:
And, if you're keen for the Manx version, you can enjoy it here!
As probably comes across in the film, Cori worked on the science/engineering behind the bridges really well with them, and it seems that it went in with them really nicely. A Home School success, we all think!
Oshin was also happily really getting into puzzles.
He has also always been mad-keen for cars - leaping from the lunch table to rush into the play room if anyone mentions the word etc. But over the past few days he's got into puzzles.
This is great, but he's not very good at them, so it definitely needs someone to be there to do it with him:
A treat for the older boys (during Oshin's mis-timed nap) was a picnic lunch in the lounge, which they thought was a great excitement!
Oshin, however, was only too happy to be in his usual place for food when he got up:
A new thing we introduced today (mainly for Orry) was drawing, with Mo Willems. They both really enjoyed it, and Orry especially:
Another new thing for today was moving from the unruly and generally frustrating dancing to the organised and rather more useful half-hour work-out by Joe Wicks on YouTube, which is taking the world by storm at the moment. I and the boys did it and felt better for it (though Orry was rather half-hearted about actually joining in!)
We still followed it by Yoga, which was a bit awkward/difficult, for those of us who actually did the exercise properly!
A remarkable success over the past few days has been a table I set up when we were working on that with them - the Orry Whine table, with tallies for each day against the activities he whined at/for.
He has had a real problem with whining about things lately, which has been causing problems for us all, so I thought it might work. And, it did, marvellously - look at those tallies after day 1!
Orry can go either way on things like this, but it caught him perfectly in that it made him fight incredibly hard to not be marked down at all.
And so, in four days, Orry is as good as cured of whining. Amazing!
